Full Circle for Elmwood

16 August 2005

Branding and design consultancy, Elmwood, has long championed the importance of language in design and business at large. So it comes as no surprise that this month’s launch of 'From Here to Here', a book of stories inspired by London's circle line, features Elmwood head of writing, Jayne Workman, with a story about Farringdon.

The book itself features the work of 27 members of 26, the writers' organisation launched in 2002 to raise the profile of language in business and beyond. The book is edited by Jon Simmons, ex-head of verbal identity at Interbrand. Each writer was given one of the circle line's 27 stations around which to base a piece of writing. The result is a rich diversity of writing from poetry to fiction, history and humour, a true celebration of the capital.

As part of the project, each writer was also teamed up with design students at the London College of Communication. Their brief was to create a piece of artwork around their given circle line station. A passionate advocate of a collaborative approach between writing and design, Elmwood was keen to support the project. Since its start nearly 20 years ago, the company has demonstrated this commitment with its own team of in-house writers working closely with designers to deliver effective and award-winning communication for clients such as the BBC, Royal Mail, Asda, HBOS and 3i out of offices in Leeds, London, Edinburgh and Melbourne.

The project will be launched at the London Design Festival on 15th September 2005. The results of this collaboration will be displayed at an exhibition at the London College of Communication from 16th September to 12th October. Posters will also appear on circle line underground stations. Copies of the book published by Cyan Communications are available at all good bookshops and via www.amazon.co.uk.
